How to Look 10 Years Younger, Instantly

When it comes to anti-aging tips, most suggestions revolve around taking steps to gradually prevent or reduce damage. But what if you want to look younger right this second? Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to look more youthful and radiant that don’t require you to wait five years—or even five months. With just a few simple tweaks to your everyday skin care, makeup and hair routine, you can shave years off your appearance without having to spend a fortune.

Here’s what experts in skin care, hair care and cosmetics had to say about looking years younger, instantly.

1. Use a Hydrating Mask
For tighter, glowing skin, put on a hydrating mask for ten minutes. “The nourishing, hydrating ingredients plump your skin to make it appear more dewy and youthful with the appearance of fine lines reduced,” says celebrity esthetician Angela Caglia.

2. Choose a Luminous Foundation
Not all foundations are created equal, and to best downplay those pesky fine lines and wrinkles, you’ll want to choose a light-reflecting, lightweight, and luminous foundation. “Steer clear of pressed powders or anything full coverage, as these products tend to settle into wrinkles,” says makeup artist Kate Stromberg. “Instead, opt for a silicone-based, medium-coverage, liquid foundation or a tinted moisturizer with luminescent particles to easily create the illusion of a glowing complexion.”

3. Lighten Your Hair a Bit
“A general universal rule is that the older you get, lighter colors will always look better,” says master stylist Bernhards Ziverts. “Not everyone looks good with blonde hair, but even traditionally dark-haired people can add a few highlights here and there.” Not only do highlights help disguise grays, but they help prevent your hair from clashing with your complexion, as your skin tends to be less radiant as you age.

4. Wear a Ponytail
If you’re looking for a hairstyle that not only looks sophisticated but helps make your face look younger, you’ll want to opt for a classic ponytail. “When you pull your hair up into a ponytail—the higher the better—it helps raise the hair off of your face and gives you an instant mini facelift,” says celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright. “There’s no recovery time needed.”

5. Exfoliate (But Don't Overdo It)
Making exfoliating part of your skin care routine can help brighten your skin on the spot. “This takes away the dead skin and dullness that leads to looking older,” says Caglia. “Exfoliation helps to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well.” Just make sure to be gentle on your skin by using the right technique for your skin type.

6. White Out Your Waterline
Looking tired can age you quickly, but you can avoid looking exhausted or dull by applying a little bit of light eyeliner to the inside of your eyes. “Look bright-eyed and selfie-ready by using a gel liner (made for lining the inside rim of the eye), in a white, peach or champagne,” says Stromberg. “This trick will instantly create a well-rested, wide-eyed brilliance with a dash of youthful vivacity.”

7. Finish Your Look With a Mineral Mist
When all your makeup is done, use a mineral mist to add a beautiful glow to your skin in an instant. “It will take away any makeup that became too dry and add glow instead,” says makeup artist Shara Strand. “You can use this throughout the day to refresh the makeup.”
